Police Recruitment is Full of Corruption – AIG
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Mr. Philimon Ibrahim Leha has expressed disappointment over the recruitment process of the Nigeria police stating that it is full of corruption.
He said: “Even the most recent recruitment were cadet officers are undergoing various trainings would further be scrutinized such that many of them may not eventually scale through.”
Leha, who said this in Dutse, Jigawa State during a courtesy visit to Governor Sule Lamido at Government House, stated that the new management of the Nigeria Police will be all out to bring sanity into the policing profession with a view to restoring public confidence in the force.
“It is disheartening with the way and manner new officers are being recruited into the force,” he said, noting: “If we really have to transform the police force we must also change our approach to the process of recruiting officers which is full of corruption and sentiment,” he said.
Speaking further on recruitment, he said hence forth the exercise would only be based on merit. He informed the governor about the new strategy to be introduced by the police which include among others creating a Human Rights Unit and Community Policing for effective service delivery.
“We cannot do it alone we need the support of all and sundry to get to the promise land we need all these for us to operate within the confines of the law and for the success of our democratization process and for peace and tranquillity to reign in the land.’’
Responding Governor Lamido, who expressed happiness for the familiarization tour embarked upon by the AIG, thanked him for the new initiative to be introduced by Nigeria Police Force.
Lamido said Nigeria is passing through one of its most trying moments in its chequered history and must strive to surmount the security challenges that have so far defied solution.
