SOKOTO STATE UNIVERSITY NIGERIA VACANCIES 2011 (MASSIVE)

The Sokoto State University Implement Committee, on behalf of the Sokoto State Government hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the positions below at Sokoto State University, Sokoto:

POSITION: VICE-CHANCELLOR
DUTIES:

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Office of the University. He shall be the link between the Council and Senate and shall be responsible for impending decisions of both Council and Senate. He shall also be competent at all times to advise the Council on any matter affecting the policy, finance and administration of the University. His specific duties shall include maintaining efficiency and orderliness in the University, and ensuring that academic standards are sustained. The Vice-Chancellor shall also maintain good public relations, and manage the University effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The candidate must be:

• A globally renowned scholar who is a Professor or an academic of similar rank
• A scholar who should not have attained the age of 60 years at the time of assumption of duty.
• A scholar who has held same or commensurate position elsewhere
• A scholar from any part of the world.
• A scholar well-known for his/her ability to provide quality leadership of an academic environment
• A scholar who will be able to provide the university with academic linkage and international organizations and donor agencies
• A scholar who will be able to attract research grants and complementary funds from local and international organization and donor agencies
• A scholar who is information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient, committed to the mainstreaming of ICT into University wide programmes and activities
• A scholar who is not likely to foster personal, racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional interest and who is also capable of inspiring the members of University community towards the attainment of its goals.
• A scholar who has a good understanding of the Vision and Mission of the University and
• A person who enjoys excellent physical and mental health.

POSITION: REGISTRAR
DUTIES:

The Registrar is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University. He shall be the Secretary of Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation and shall keep custody of and administer the University Laws.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The candidate must:

• Possess a good honours degree in Humanities (with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division) from a recognized University. Possession of a higher degree will be an advantage.
• Be a seasoned administrator of a tertiary academic environment with at least five (5) years as Deputy Registrar or cognate senior management position.
• Be a Nigerian.
• Be a person with good leadership qualities who can inspire a crop of young administrative officers to be able to get the best out of them
• Have full membership of relevant professional bodies.
• Be focused and innovative and
• Be of excellent physical and mental health.

POSITION: BURSAR
DUTIES:

The Bursar shall be the Chief Finance Officer of the University. He shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor on matters of financial management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The candidate must:

• Possess a B.Sc degree in Accountancy (with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division) or a chartered accountant or any qualification equivalent to these,
• Be a person who has experience in government bureaucracy or a tertiary institution of not less than 10 years, with at least five (5) years as Deputy Bursar or cognate senior management position
• Be a Nigerian
• Be physically and mental stable,
• Be a full member of relevant professional body and
• Be focused and innovative.

POSITION: LIBRARIAN
DUTIES:

The University Librarian shall be the Chief Library Officer of the University. He shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor with functions over the day-to-day management of the University Library.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The candidate must:

• Possess who has a first degree in Library Science (with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division). Possession of higher degree in Library Sciences will be an advantage
• A person who has experience in the organization and running of a Library for not less than 5 years, and has served as the Deputy Librarian
• A Nigerian and
• Have full membership of relevant professional body.

POSITION: DIRECTOR OF WORKS, PHYSICAL PLANNING AND MAINTENANCE

DUTIES:
The director shall be the Chief Physical Development Officer of the University, with responsibility for maintenance of existing buildings, and construction of new physical structures and facilities in the University.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The candidate must:

• Be a person with a minimum of first Degree in Civil Engineering, Building or Architecture (with at least Second Class Lower Division),
• Have cognate experience of not less than 10 years,
• Be a Nigerian,
• Be registered with relevant professional bodies and
• Enjoy excellent physical and mental health.

SALARY AND CONDITION OF SERVICE:
The salaries and conditions of service are as applicable to the post appointed for in Nigerian State Universities as approved by Sokoto State Government and the Governing Council of the University from time to time.

TENURE:
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold-office for a one-term period of five (5) years. While other officers shall hold office for a renewable two-term periods of five (5) years each subject to the approval of the Governing Council.

xvii. Research output and Scholarly publications in renowned domestic and international journals with dates and books (for Vice-Chancellor only)
xviii. Membership of academic and professional bodies
xix. Extra Curricula Activities.
xx. Names and Addresses of three (3) Referees (two (2) of whom must be professional authorities in relevant fields).
xxi. A Statement of the candidate’s vision for the Sokoto State University in the next five (5) years of not more than 1500 words
